Crushes…

October 28, 2009

Wednesdays are good days for crushes.

Here are a few of mine:

Twigs & Honey creates whimsical, feminine hairpieces. I can’t get enough of them.

Need a flirty dress to go with your headpiece? Try Elizabeth Dye (and if you’re lucky enough to live in or near Portland, OR visit her store – The English Dept.

I’m in major crush with her wedding dresses but I thought I would add a photo more befitting this Halloween season.

and just when you thought it couldn’t get any better – a Twigs and Honey headpiece with a Elizabeth Dye dress. Yum.

Of course my major crush today is my husband who drove a rental car (remember, we’re in Scotland so steering wheel is on the opposite side plus we must drive on the opposite side of the road) 15 curvy miles while having a major migraine. Definitely crush worthy.

Simon – Edinburgh Scotland

October 26, 2009

While in Scotland we stayed with our new friend Simon Marshall. Simon is an amazing artist (see his work here!) and generous host. He also let me photograph him!

Bath England

October 26, 2009

In the middle of our Portsmouth stay we decided to splurge (well, our version of splurge) and go to Bath for a night. I was there years ago and knew that Jon would love it, Bath is such an elegant city. We payed for a room on the river, close to the train station with “lovely views.”

Ok, staying with Micha and Jayne spoiled us rotten. Gorgeous front garden, big Victorian house, dinners cooked by Micha himself and tons of laughter.

Sixpenny Handley England

Yes, it was as cute as the name. My favourite part? Walking on country lanes through the fields and hills, Jon and I saw a hot air balloon trying to land in a field close by. I hiked up skirts and we ran toward the field. What could be better than chasing after a hot air balloon down a beautiful english lane?

Our new friends took us to Old Waldour castle. I’ve been in exquisite castles and grand english homes but I think old ruined castles are much more romantic and provide great “scope for the imagination.”

Our Adventure Begins…

October 25, 2009

Jon and I left the country for three months. Yep, three months. I’m not sure why we chose the most beautiful season in New England to leave but we did. Two months (Oct 5 – Dec 5) sabbatical, visiting friends in the U.K. and Europe and then off to Cambodia for almost a month to work with my non-profit Love146 (Love146 combats child sex slavery and exploitation and cares for survivors).

We’ve been gone almost three weeks so I have a bit to catch you up on!

First let me say that I’m a people photographer through and through so photographing anything other than people is a good challenge!

Oxford.

Jon (my husband) was born in Oxford so it has long been a dream of mine to go there with him. We walked down paths and streets that he remembered as a child, it was wonderful. Jon’s brother Mark is studying early music (apparently it runs in the family) this year so we also got to catch up with him!

Cari and I ran up to Providence, RI for a “dress” shoot. We had such a great day.

Little did we know that there were monsters roaming around town. They seemed friendly at first...

I wanted to post a few photos I took before Jon and I left on our adventure. I will post them in sections to keep it manageable.
